IPL 2019: KXIP beat CSK, here are the records broken
Kings XI Punjab beat Chennai Super Kings in match number 55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. The R Ashwin-led side ended their IPL 12 campaign with a well deserved win. Du Plessis slams 11th IPL fifty, shares 100-plus stand
Du Plessis (96) slammed his second fifty in IPL 2019. This was his 11th career IPL fifty and also his highest score in the tournament. The Proteas international shared a commanding 120-run stand with Suresh Raina for the second wicket. This was the eighth century-plus stand for the second wicket in the IPL for CSK. Interestingly, Raina has been part of all these partnerships.
Raina smashes 38th IPL fifty, surpasses 350 runs this season
Raina went past the 350-run mark in IPL 2019. The southpaw smashed his third IPL fifty this season. This was also Raina's 38th career IPL fifty. He went past Shikhar Dhawan's tally of 37 and now only trails David Warner (44). Raina smashed two sixes and saw his overall tally in the IPL rise to 194. He went past Rohit Sharma (193).
Rahul and Gayle stitch third 100-plus stand in IPL
KL Rahul (71) ended the campaign with 593 runs. This was his sixth fifty this season and a 16th overall. Rahul and Chris Gayle (28) stitched 108 runs for the first wicket. This was their third century-plus stand in the IPL as a pair and also a first against CSK. Gayle increased his IPL sixes tally to 326.
Bhajji races to 147 IPL scalps, Shami terrific for KXIP
Harbhajan Singh (3/57) now has 12 IPL wickets this season. He has registered 147 career IPL wickets to his name and went past Dwayne Bravo (145). Sam Curran (3/35) picked up his second best figures in IPL. Mohammed Shami (3/17) ended as KXIP's highest wicket-taker this season (19). Deepak Chahar surpassed the 150-mark in terms of dot balls this season (153).
How did the match pan out?
CSK lost Shane Watson early on, before Du Plessis and Raina got along to dictate the show. Both played to their strengths and applied themselves well. KXIP hit back from there on and restricted the visitors to 170, which on this wicket was below-par. Rahul's aggression took CSK by surprise and Gayle supported him well. KXIP lost a few wickets, but chased the total.
