IPL 2019: CSK beat KKR, here are the records broken
Chennai Super Kings completed the double over Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The defending champions continued their winning momentum to stay atop. Meanwhile, Kolkata suffered their third successive defeat. Batting first, KKR posted a paltry score of 161/8, despite Chris Lynn's 82. All-round CSK then got past the line. Here are the records broken.
Some impressive feats for the veterans of IPL
Piyush Chawla now has 146 career IPL wickets. He needs four more to surpass Amit Mishra (149). MS Dhoni is just four sixes away from registering 200 in IPL. Raina now has 190 sixes to his name. He amassed his 36th career IPL fifty. The southpaw equalled the likes of Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. Sunil Narine now has 116 IPL wickets.
Lynn smashes eighth IPL fifty, Jadeja concedes joint-most runs
Lynn smashed seven fours and six sixes in a 51-ball knock at the Eden. He hit his second fifty this season and went past the 200-run mark (212). The Aussie also registered an eighth career IPL fifty. Ravindra Jadeja conceded 49 runs. It's the joint-most he has conceded in an IPL match. He had conceded 49 runs against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede in 2015.
Tahir scripts a host of records
Imran Tahir (4/27) now has 66 career IPL wickets. He went past former Proteas hero Jacques Kallis (65). This was Tahir's best figures in the IPL. He now has 13 wickets in IPL 2019 to equal Kagiso Rabada (13). Tahir scripted the second best bowling figures against KKR at the Eden. Former CSK pacer Makhaya Ntini (4/21) holds the record for the best spell.
A look at some interesting feats scripted
Suresh Raina has now scored the most runs against KKR in IPL. He went past David Warner's tally of 762 runs. Shane Watson was dismissed LBW. This was the first time he was out in this fashion while playing for CSK in IPL. Robin Uthappa registered his seventh duck in IPL. He equalled a host of players including Warner and Raina.
Faf du Plessis scripts this record with four IPL catches
Faf du Plessis picked up four catches in this match. He now has 36 career IPL catches to go past the likes of Virender Sehwag and Shane Watson. Faf du Plessis also became the sixth outfield player to take four catches in a match. He also became the third player to do so in IPL 2019 after Rahul Tewatia and David Miller.
How did the match pan out?
Lynn was the chief architect for KKR in their innings. The Australia came back from a flu to take charge with a powerful knock. KKR seemed to be going well, but Lynn and Andre Russell's wickets in the same over changed the complexion. From there on CSK were top class with the ball. In reply, CSK were in control and showed their experience.
