IPL : Sunrisers Hyderabad off to a winning start
Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) began their IPL 2017 campaign with a win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beating them by 35 runs. Ashish Nehra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Afghani player Rashid Khan picked up two wickets each, with Deepak Hooda picking up the crucial wicket of RCB's big man Chris Gayle. Yuvraj Singh was chosen as the Man of the match.
IPL 2017 kicks off !
The 10th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off today with a glitzy opening ceremony in Hyderabad. Apart from the regular bollywood performances, the ceremony included felicitation of four Indian cricket legends - Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, and VVS Laxman. The first match of the tournament saw hosts and defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
How have the teams lined up?
In the curtain raiser match, Royal Challengers Bangalore pitched a team sans their key players hit with injuries, including Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, and KL Rahul. Hyderabad team on the other hand with a home advantage looked the better team on paper with the likes of big hitters David Warner and Yuvraj Singh. Shane Watson-led RCB won the toss and chose to field.
Hyderabad sets up a heavy target
Batting first, Hyderabad were off to a flyer scoring 59 runs in the first powerplay. With a sizzling 62-run knock off 27 balls from Yuvraj Singh, SRH scored a mammoth 207/4, for RCB to chase. This included major contributions from Shikhar Dhawan (40 runs in 31 balls), and Henriques who managed to score first fifty of IPL 2017 (52 runs in 37 balls).
