World Cup 2019: Inzamam-ul-Haq thinks Pakistan can beat India
The ICC World Cup 2019 is set to kick off from Thursday. One of the most awaited matches of the tournament is between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. Having lost all the six matches against India in the tournament to date, Pakistan would be desperately hoping for a turnaround this term. Meanwhile, PCB's chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed his hope of Pakistan toppling India this time.
Inzamam hopeful of Pakistan ending losing streak against India
As Pakistan continue to look for their elusive win against India in World Cup, Inzamam sounded hopeful of the same. He said that people of Pakistan do take the clash against India seriously, as they believe winning against India would be their greatest win ever. "I am hopeful that we will end our losing streak against India in World Cup," he said.
Inzamam warns Pakistan not to take any team lightly
Inzamam further went on to warn Pakistan that no team in the World Cup should be taken lightly. He said that teams like Afghanistan have the potential to dethrone top teams of the world. "Even if you play, for instance, against Afghanistan, you get the same value with two points," he further quoted. Notably, Pakistan start their campaign against West Indies on May 31.
Inzamam backs India and Pakistan among top four
"I think England, as they are the number one side, India, because of the balance of their side, New Zealand, as they have played good cricket in the build-up to the event, and of course Pakistan will be my final four," Inzamam presented his top-four.
Inzamam defends selection of Mohammad Hasnain and Wahab Riaz
Inzamam was criticized for making late changes in the Pakistan squad, including the selection of Mohammad Hasnain and Wahab Riaz. However, Inzamam defended his selection by saying that Hasnain's ability to generate a pace of 150 kph could really help their bowling, while Wahab too can bowl somewhere around 130-140 kph. He also said that this would add a new dimension to Pakistan's bowling.
Inzamam reveals challenges while picking the World Cup squad
"People think it is easy to jot down 14-15 players in order to form a squad but it's nothing like that because there is a lot of pressure. For example, it was very difficult for us to select fast-bowlers for the World Cup," stated Inzamam.
Pakistan need to play smart and fearless cricket
While Inzamam is hopeful of Pakistan getting a way through India in this World Cup, the author feels India have an upper hand. Pakistan's recent string of losses, along with an average batting line-up might help India overcome them. However, we believe that Pakistan should play fearless brand of cricket as the same has helped them in the past including the Champions Trophy.
