Sanchez to make United return after Inter reject loan extension
Serie A side Inter Milan are reportedly set to turn down the chance to extend Alexis Sanchez's loan deal following what has been a disappointing season. This will see the Chilean return to Manchester United at the end of the season. Sanchez was marred by injuries and poor form at Inter. Here's more on the same.
Sanchez's time at Inter is coming to an end
According to a report in The Telegraph, Sanchez's time at Inter is set to come to an end. Sanchez's hope of making a big impact was ruined by a serious ankle injury back in October. Sanchez has featured primarily in cup competitions since returning from his three-month lay-off. He made just 15 appearances in 2019-20, scoring a solitary goal.
Inter's decision will see Sanchez head back to Old Trafford
Inter have the option to buy the versatile forward at the end of his loan spell, however, manager Antonio Conte isn't keen on doing the same or extend his loan. This will see the player head back to Old Trafford. He has another two years remaining in his deal. United had sanctioned his move last summer and were happy to see him go.
Sanchez was a costly mistake for United
The former Arsenal star joined United in a four-and-a-half-year deal worth £14m a year after tax back in January 2018. His move was part of a swap deal which included Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Sanchez came in and scored just five goals in 45 matches across competitions. He was a shadow of himself and was marred by constant injuries. This saw United allowing him to leave.
United loaded with attacking options
United bought winger Daniel James in the summer and promoted teenage striker Mason Greenwood. Both players impressed largely in the 2019-20 season. With Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial being the main forces in this side, United have quality. There are also talks of handing forward Odion Ighalo a permanent deal. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho is being eyed in the summer.
Will Sanchez make the cut in this United side?
Going by Sanchez's offerings over the last two seasons, he looks out of depth and there is a lack of confidence. Injuries have taken a toll and managers have lost the trust. United will aim to offload him once again.
