#IndiaInEngland: Injury might rule Bumrah out of first 3 Tests
In his race against the clock to regain his fitness, India's pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah has been struck another blow. As per reports, his injury shall keep him away from the first 3 Tests in England, after he missed out the T20I and ODI series. The news comes after wicket-keeper batsman, Wriddhiman Saha, was ruled out owing to a thumb injury, as well.
Details of the injury
The BCCI is expected to exclude Bumrah, from the squad, that will be announced today for the Test series against England. He had fractured his thumb in the first T20I match against Ireland, last month. The Mumbai Indians bowler was sent home after his injury and Deepak Chahar, the India A bowler, was named as his replacement in T20Is.
Who will fit the spot?
Mohammed Shami is set to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the squad. Shami was earlier expected to be a part of the ODI squad but had failed to pass the Yo-Yo endurance test, which he has now cleared. Shami returns after his hamstring injury and will join India's pace trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav.
How will it affect the team?
Shami's comeback would be a positive sign for the Indian side owing to his experience in Test cricket. Shami has already played 30 Tests and picked up 110 wickets, while Bumrah has been a part of a mere 3 matches. Indian skipper Kohli's quote read "Our squad is pretty settled. We are really excited to be going into a lengthy Test series."
Schedule of the England tour
India's tour of England began on July 3 with the T20I series, which India won 2-1. After the ODI series, which concluded yesterday, the 5-match Test series is set to begin from August 1 and will go on till September 11. Due to the length of the series, injured players might get their chances in the latter part of the tournament.
