I know how to play in what situation: Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant has received a golden opportunity to showcase his skills in ODI cricket after being handed a place in the squad for the upcoming series against Australia. Pant was drafted into the team ahead of Dinesh Karthik. Now it's time for the southpaw to show why he deserves to play the World Cup. In the same light, Pant has hit back at critics.
Can't play just to survive, says Pant
In an interview, Pant said he has played cricket all his life and he knows how to play in different kind of situations. "By now, at least this much I know how to play in what situation. Sometimes you have to curb your instincts, that is also important. At the end of the day, you have to score runs. Can't play just to survive."
'I just focus on my processes'
"I just focus on my processes. I don't see whether I am doing well or badly. Because results obviously matter, but at the end of the day, your processes are important. Whatever processes have brought me here, I need to focus on that," said Pant.
Big chance for Pant to show his mettle
Pant made his foray into the ODI squad after having missed the series against Australia and New Zealand in 2019. The southpaw, who has cemented his place in the Test team, has featured in just three ODIs so far and the performances haven't been positive. India will need to play Pant in the series versus Australia to see how he fares against top sides.
Series against Australia is of utmost importance for Pant, Rahul
Many former Indian cricketers want Pant to be in the World Cup squad and have backed him. Besides Pant, top order batsman KL Rahul was also called up. This series is of utmost importance for the duo. It remains to be seen what lies in store for Karthik though. He had given a good account of himself in the chances he got.
Upcoming series could decide Pant's fate: Our take
Pant adds a lot of character in this Indian side. But it is all about performance. At the moment, the selectors and the management have already identified the core team for the event, starting in England and Wales from May 30 onwards. Pant gives the team versatility, but he lacks experience. The upcoming series could give us an idea about his credentials.
