Sindhu to face Yamaguchi in the final
Sindhu will face fourth seed Akane Yamaguchi in the final. Akane Yamaguchi overcame number one seed Tzu Ying Tai 21-10, 21-15 in the other semis battle. It will be a cracking affair for Sindhu in the final against an in-form opponent. Earlier in the quarters, Sindhu had showed a sturdy display to beat Nozomi Okuhara.
How did the first game pan out?
In the opening game, the Indian star and fifth seed was trying to keep in touch with her opponent. In the entire game, Yufei managed to gain strong positions and take advantage, but each time Sindhu found a way to fight back. Yufei was 7-4 and then 18-14 up against Sindhu, but wasted chances. Sindhu sealed the first game 21-19 with a drop shot.
How did the second game pan out?
The second game started in a similar fashion with Sindhu's opponent taking a 4-0 lead. But as the match progressed, Yufei began to make mistakes. This gave Sindhu the impetus as she broke the shackles to take a strong 8-5 lead. Sindhu soon raced to 18-8 after a dominating display and then sealed the game 21-10. It was her best match of 2019.
Sindhu hopes to join Saina with this record
Sindhu could land her maiden Indonesia Open title. A win in the final will see Sindhu becoming only the second women's badminton player from India to bag the trophy. Saina Nehwal (2010 and 2012) has bagged the prestigious trophy twice.
