#MatchInNumbers: Virat Kohli slams 23rd Test ton, here're records broken
Virat Kohli is enjoying the form of his life as he hit his 23rd Test ton and second of this series. Courtesy of amazing bowling performances, coupled with dominant show by India's top order, India are in a strong position in the third Test. Kohli and Co. have broken several records in this match. Here are some of those.
The debutante has worked wonders
It came as a blow to India when injury kept wicket-keeper Wriddhiman away from the series. However, Rishabh Pant has proved in this Test that he can work wonders behind the wicket. He became the first Indian batsman to open his Test cricket account with a six. Pant became the first Asian cricketer to take 5 catches in an innings on his debut.
Hardik Pandya means business this time
Hardik Pandya got his maiden five-wicket haul during England's innings. He became the second fastest Indian to pick a five-wicket haul, bowling a mere 29 deliveries on his way. The least number of balls required to pick a 5-wicket haul, by an Indian, is 27. Harbhajan Singh achieved the feat against West Indies (2006). Root, Bairstow, Woakes, Rashid and Broad were Pandya's victims.
Captain Kohli is at it again
Knocking up 97 runs during India's first innings saw Kohli become the highest scoring Indian captain in away Tests. Kohli (1,700+ runs, 30 innings) surpassed Ganguly (1,693 runs, 43 innings, average 43.41). Kohli's 97 is the second time ever he got out in his 90s. His 2nd innings ton is the 9th time Kohli has made 50+ in both innings of a Test.
Other important and interesting stats
India have never lost a Test match in England after making 300+ batting first. Pujara's half-century is his first in 16 First-class matches. Kohli has scored 400+ runs in the series. Kohli now has 58 international tons under his belt.
