Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma recently set a new record by becoming the fastest player to score 9,000 runs as an opener in ODIs.
He reached the milestone during the 2025 Champions Trophy match against Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai.
Here we look at Indian batters with 9,000 or more ODI runs as designated openers.

Rohit Sharma - 9,019 runs
Rohit crossed the 9,000-run mark as an opener in his 181st innings, ahead of Sachin Tendulkar, who did so in his 197th innings.
He has now raced to 9,019 runs in this regard. As per ESPNcricinfo, his average of 54.99 is the highest among batters with 3,000 or more ODI runs while opening the batting.
Rohit owns 30 tons and 44 fifties as an opener in the format. He has overall raced to 11,049 ODI runs.

Sourav Ganguly - 9,146 runs
Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly also features on this list as 9,146 of his 11,363 ODI runs have come while batting at the top.
He opened for India 236 times in ODIs and mustered runs at an average of 41.57. He scored 19 tons and 58 fifties at the top.
His 183 against Sri Lanka in 1999 continues to be India's highest-invidual score in a World Cup match.

Sachin Tendulkar - 15,310
While the legendary Sachin Tendulkar finished his ODI career with 15,310 runs while opening the batting, no other batter has managed 14,300 runs in the format in his entire career.
Tendulkar played 340 innings as an opener and scored runs at 48.29. 45 of his 49 ODI tons came while batting at the top (50s: 75).
The Master Blaster, who was the first batter to smoke an ODI double-ton, overall finished with 18,426 runs.
