Veda Krishnamurthy signs with Hobart Hurricanes for WBBL
Indian batswoman Veda Krishnamurthy has signed a contract with Hobart Hurricanes to feature in the Women's Big Bash League in Australia. Krishnamurthy was one of the star players for the Indian women's cricket team in the 2017 Women's ICC Cricket World Cup in England. She has become the third Indian woman cricketer to sign for WBBL after Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana.
Deepti Sharma too could land with a contract?
As per reports, all-rounder Deepti Sharma has also approached by WBBL franchises for the upcoming season. Sharma had played a key role for the Indian team in the 2017 World Cup. She also holds the record for scoring the most runs in an ODI innings by an Indian woman cricketer, and has the best bowling figures of 6/20 in 50-over cricket.
BCCI backs women cricketers playing in outside league
Encouraging women cricketers to play in the international T20 leagues, an official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, "Both Krishnamurthy and Deepti Sharma should play the Big Bash this season."
Indian woman cricketers focus on domestic cricket
The Indian women's cricket team has not played any series since the World Cup in July. They play next in February 2018 against the South Africa women's cricket team. However, the members of the team have since been focusing on their fitness, and playing domestic tournaments around the country. The team has a training camp in Bengaluru from 8th November.
