Under-17 World Wrestling Championships: Indian women contingent bags four golds
India has made a significant mark at the Under-17 World Wrestling Championships 2024 with four female wrestlers securing gold medals in their respective categories. The victorious quartet includes Aditi Kumari, Neha, Pulkit, and Mansi. Their triumphs took place at the prestigious Cadets event on Thursday. Male wrestlers Ronak Dahiya and Sainath Pardhi also secured podium finishes at the event. Here are further details.
Aditi Kumari's triumph in the 43kg category
Aditi Kumari emerged as the champion in the 43kg category, after defeating Maria Louiza Gkika of Greece with a decisive 7-0 victory. This marked India's first gold medal win at this year's championship. Neha followed suit by overpowering Japan's So Tsuitsui in the 57kg final, showcasing her prowess with double-leg attacks and leaving little room for her opponent to retaliate.
Pulkit and Mansi securd gold medals
Pulkit secured another gold medal for India in the 65kg final. She faced off against Daria Frolova, a neutral athlete, and emerged victorious with a 6-3 win. Despite conceding a pushout point and caution late in the bout that allowed Frolova to gain three points, Pulkit successfully defended her lead in the final 20 seconds to claim the title. Mansi Lather added to India's tally by clinching gold after defeating Hanna Pirskaya in the 73kg final.
India also secured two bronze medals
In addition to the four gold medals, India also secured two bronze medals in the Greco Roman style. These were won by Ronak Dahiya and Sainath Pardhi (51kg), who both managed to secure podium finishes. This brings India's total medal tally at the Under-17 World Wrestling Championships 2024 to six, highlighting a successful campaign for the nation's young wrestlers.
