Swiatek is the WTA Tour leader in terms of match-wins in 2022. With her victory over Keys, she extended her unbeaten run to 18 this year. The Polish is yet to lose a WTA 1000 match (2022). Halep won the Melbourne Summer Set 1
Halep has a win-loss record of 15-3 in 2022. France's Caroline Garcia had stunned her in the second round of the Qatar Open in February. Prior to that, Halep reached the semi-finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Dubai. Before the Australian Open (lost the last 16 clash), Halep won the Melbourne Summer Set 1, having defeated Veronika Kudermetova in the final.
Halep eyes her ninth WTA 1000 title
At the ongoing Indian Wells, Halep beat Croatia's Petra Martic 6-1, 6-1 to become this year's first semi-finalist. She earned wins over Ekaterina Alexandrova, Coco Gauff, and Sorana Cirstea before the quarter-final. Notably, Halep won the BNP Paribas Open title in 2015. She owns a total of eight WTA 1000 titles. The last of these came in 2020 at the Italian Open.
