Two Indian U-19 footballers injured in a freak cable-car accident
In a freak accident in Turkey, two Indian U-19 footballers Rohit Danu and Manish Chaudhary suffered injuries while they tried to jump off a malfunctioned cable car. The incident took place at an amusement park near their official hotel in Kartepe. Unfortunately, the two players have suffered severe injuries. U-19 team was in Turkey for an exposure trip. Both players faced serious injuries
According to a report in The Indian Express, 15-year-old left-back Manish has broken his ribs, besides fracturing his leg. Meanwhile, 17-year-old forward Rohit Danu has suffered a serious knee injury. They will be returning to Delhi on Monday, where they will undergo further examination and care. The two players were given a day off by coach Floyd Pinto.
The U-19 team was in Turkey for an exposure trip
The two players are part of the India U-19 team that toured Turkey for an exposure trip to prepare for the AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers. The tourney is set to be played in Saudi Arabia in November. They weren't part of the playing group against local club Kocaelispor U-19. However, the two players are an integral part of the Indian youth set-up.
Manish's father gives key details about the incident
"They had free time so were out somewhere. Manish said he was in a lift with Danu. The lift suddenly stopped working and they tried to escape by jumping out of it. In the process, they hurt themselves badly," Sarvan Chaudhary, father of Manish, told The Indian Express. "Manish has broken ribs and fractured leg while Danu has also injured his knee," he added.
The players panicked and jumped: AIFF
Three officials from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) also confirmed the report. "It was a ski lift, which malfunctioned for some reason. It was dark and foggy, and the lift was 10ft from ground level. The players panicked and jumped, and landed awkwardly," a senior official said. The AIFF revealed that Manish and Danu were taken to a hospital immediately.
Key information about the two players
Manish represents Bengaluru FC academy and was also a part of the club's squad in the junior I-League. Meanwhile, Danu, is considered to be one of the nation's top rising talents. He plays for the Indian Arrows, which is a developmental team floated by the AIFF. Notably, Danu was the goal-scorer in India's superb win over Oman U-19 last Monday.
This is how the tour went for U-19 team
The 22-member U-19 Indian team lost and won one match against Oman U-19 in Turkey. Their next encounter against Jordan U-19 was abandoned due to poor weather conditions. The team's tour ended on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat to Kocaelispor U-19.
