#IndiaInEngland: India's Test ranking not in danger
As India are set to lock horns with England in a 5-match Test series starting August 1, even a whitewash will not hamper their number one ranking in this format. Virat Kohli's side sit pretty atop the ICC Test Rankings with 125 rating points. England have been struggling in this format and cannot topple India in any case. Notably, they have 97 rating points.
South Africa in second place won't trouble India
South Africa are currently involved in a Test series against Sri Lanka. They are placed second in the ICC Rankings with a rating of 112. They have already lost the first Test and in the ongoing second match as well, they are in a position of bother. Therefore, the Proteas won't be in a position to challenge India for the number one position.
The numbers behind why India will remain atop
If India suffer a 0-5 loss in the Test series, their rating points will drop to 112. With the SA's rating expected to fall below the current level, India will still keep their number one position intact. England will jump a couple of positions, in this scenario, but will not reach the 112-mark. So Kohli's side has an advantage going into the series.
India unlikely to lose by a 0-5 margin
Given recent Test performances in 2018, India are unlikely to lose by this whopping margin. The Kohli-led side lost the Test series against South Africa away, but managed to win a match as it ended 2-1. India then beat Afghanistan 1-0. England, on the other hand, lost the Ashes and the series against New Zealand. They drew their 2-match series against Pakistan.
