Indian eves beat WI Women: List of records broken
After sealing the ODI series 2-1, the Indian women's cricket team thrashed West Indies Women by 84 runs in the first T20I at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium. With this victory, India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. India Women scored 185/4 in 20 overs. In reply, WI Women managed 101/9. Here are the records broken.
Shafali, Mandhana slam India's highest stand in T20Is
Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana shared a 143-run partnership for the opening wicket. This is now Indian women cricket team's highest opening stand for the first wicket. It is also the highest partnership runs for any wicket by Team India. They overcame Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur's 134-run stand for the fourth wicket against New Zealand Women in 2018.
15-year-old Shafali Verma scripts these records
Shafali registered her maiden T20I fifty at the age of 15 years and 285 days. She became the second-youngest player to score a fifty in the T20I format including both men's and women's cricket. She also became the youngest Indian ever to score a fifty in International cricket (men and women). She scored a 49-ball 73 and smashes six fours and four sixes.
Sublime Mandhana smashes 10th career T20I fifty
Earlier, Mandhana had scripted many records in the ODI series decider and continued with her sublime form in the shortest format as well. She slammed a 46-ball 67. The innings was laced with 11 fours. She went past 1,400 career T20I runs (1,411). This was her 10th career T20I fifty. She also registered 175 fours in T20Is.
Other impressive feats registered in this match
The Indian women's cricket team amassed its third-highest T20I score. This was also their best T20I total against WI Women. Shafali amassed the 10th-highest individual score by an Indian batswoman in T20Is. Poonam Yadav (2/24) now has 83 career T20I wickets.
How did the match pan out?
Team India rode on Shafali and Mandhana's 143-run stand to set the base of a strong total. After the two were dismissed, the visitors lost quick wickets. However, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur chipped in with valuable unbeaten 21 runs. In reply, West Indies never looked in control and lost wickets at regular intervals. Shikha Pandey (2/22), Radha Yadav (2/10) and Poonam claimed a brace each.
