Under-19 World Cup: India beat Australia by massive 100 runs

    What's the story

The boys in blue began their Under-19 World Cup in style, seeing off the mighty Australians by a massive 100 run victory.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, captain Prithvi Shaw was the star with the bat for India but narrowly missed out on scoring a hundred.

His 94 propelled India to 328/7, in reply Australia were bowled out of 228.

    Flying start

India post a record 180 run opening stand

Indian openers got off to a flying start, with Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Karla putting up a 180-run opening stand.

Shubman Gill accelerated the Indian innings within a brilliant half-century.

Three-time champions, India finished at 328/7 to become the first side to make a 300+ total against three-time champions Australia in the Under-19 World Cup.

    Bright future

Shubman Gill is India's in form cricketer

Shubman Gill has been India's stand out performer in the last 11 ODIs.

The young right-handed batsman from Punjab has scored 840 runs at an average of 93.33 with three 100s and four 50s.

His lowest score in these 11 matches has been 24.

This is also India's 7th consecutive win over Australia in youth ODIs.

    Bad day at the office

    Struggling to meet the expectations?

Former Australia captain Steve Waugh's son, Austin Waugh had a miserable day at the office.

The all-rounder conceded 64 runs in 6 overs at an economy of 10.66.

This is the worst economy in an under-19 WC game for Australia and the second worst in a youth ODI for Australia.

Austin did not fare well with the bat too after being dismissed for 6.

    Lightning fast

Indian pacers clock in speeds of 140 Kmph

Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti were the standout performers with the ball for India having picked up 3 scalps each.

The Indian pacers were quite impressive clocking up speeds of 140 Kmph, while the Australian speedsters managed just 120 Kmph.

Judging by their performances today, Rahul Dravid and his boys are sure to go a long way in this tournament.
