Rohit Sharma scripted history at the Wankhede Stadium after completing 500 sixes in T20 cricket. He became the first-ever Indian to touch the 500-six mark in the shortest format (overall). Rohit unlocked this achievement while smashing 105*(63) against Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 Indian Premier League encounter. However, his knock went in vain. Here are the batters with the most T20 maximums.
Rohit Sharma: 502 sixes
Rohit (105*) carried his bat but couldn't help MI chase down 207 against CSK at Wankhede. He smacked 11 fours and 5 sixes. Rohit became the first Indian to complete 500 sixes in T20 cricket. He reached the feat with his third maximum. As per ESPNcricinfo, only Chris Gayle (1,056), Kieron Pollard (860), Andre Russell (678), and Colin Munro (548) are ahead of Rohit.
Virat Kohli: 383 sixes
Interestingly, no Indian other than Rohit has even 400 sixes in T20 cricket. Former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Virat Kohli follows Rohit with 383 maximums. Kohli's tally also includes 1,103 sixes, the most by an Indian in the format. The 35-year-old is presently the leading run-scorer among Indians in men's T20 cricket. He has over 12,000 runs.
MS Dhoni: 331 sixes
Thala Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is known for his big hits, occupies third spot here. In his illustrious 18-year-old T20 career, Dhoni has hammered 331 sixes as of now. As many as 133 of those maximums have come in the last two overs (18-20), the most by an Indian by a distance. Dhoni has been the flag-bearer of finishers in T20 cricket.
Suresh Raina: 325 sixes
Suresh Raina is just behind his compatriot Dhoni with 325 sixes. The former, also known as Mr. IPL, lit up the tournament during his 15-year-old career. His match-winning knocks always stood out, be it for CSK, Gujarat Lions, India, or Uttar Pradesh. Interestingly, KL Rahul recently became the only other Indian batter to have smacked over 300 T20 sixes.
Rohit owns most T20I sixes
Rohit holds the record for smashing the most sixes in T20 Internationals. He owns 190 sixes in 151 games. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav (123) and Kohli (117) are the only other Indians with over 100 T20I sixes presently.
