Ian Chappell hopes for better show by Indian Test batsmen
The Indian batting line-up was not up to the mark in the away Test series against South Africa and England this year. Out of 8 Test matches, the Virat Kohli-led side could manage just two wins. Another big series awaits them in 2018-19 when the side travels to Australia. Former Aussie legend, Ian Chappell, feels that Indian batsmen should come better prepared.
India's batting inadequacies need to be addressed
In his column for ESPN, Chappell wrote that, "India now have to look on rehabilitating their reputation in the highly anticipated series against Australia but the batting inadequacies have to be addressed." The Indian batting line-up hasn't fared well against top quality pacers in both South Africa and England. Although Indian bowlers have done a stellar job, the batting hurt them badly.
Aussie pacers will challenge Indian batsmen regularly
Like the Proteas and the Englishmen, the Aussie pacers are world class. The likes of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are excellent and are really quick. Australia will have bouncy pitches and the three bowlers are solid with the short ball. Chappell feels that the trio alongside spinner Nathan Lyon will challenge Indian batsmen regularly.
Extra bounce in Australia will trouble India
Chappell ensured a warning to India after stating that the extra bounce will create trouble. "In England it was movement through the air and off the seam that created regular problems for them- apart from Virat Kohli, but it will be the extra bounce in Australia that sorts the men from the men." India have a tough job ahead.
Aussie bowlers were terrific in the 2017-18 Ashes
The trio of Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins shared 66 wickets between them in the 2017-18 Ashes. Cummins topped the charts with 23 scalps. They punished England with some stupendous accuracy and pace. Lyon picked 21 wickets, as well. India struggled against Moeen Ali, in particular, in the series against England. This gives an indication that Lyon might trouble Indians as well.
