Javelin thrower Rohit Yadav handed provisional suspension by NADA
National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) handed a provisional suspension to javelin thrower Rohit Yadav after his tests were found positive for using a banned substance 'stanozolol'. His 'Sample A' was tested positive during a dope test conducted by NADA at the 14th National Youth Championship in April. Rohit had won a gold medal in the tournament, after setting a new record of 76.11m.
What next for the young athlete?
Yodav, who recently won a silver medal at the Asian Youth Athletics Championship in Bangkok, has been given time until next week to get his 'Sample B' tested. If this sample is also found positive, he would be banned for four years.
Another athlete found in possession of meldonium
400m hurdler Jithin Paul has been handed a provisional suspension after he was found in possession of performance-enhancing substance meldonium. Eight vials were seized from his hostel room at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) on 17 April. Athletics Federation of India has slammed India's chief coach Bahadur Singh, deputy chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair after the administration was kept in dark about Paul's case.
Vijay Goel calls for strong action against doping
Sports Minister Vijay Goel said that a serious offence like doping will be criminalized soon. He said, "Doping will be made a criminal offence. We want to stop it by making a strong law so that people are scared to be involved in doping."
