England and India are gearing up for the upcoming Test series, with the first match set to be played from August 1. Last time, when England had hosted India in 2014, they had clinched the series 3-1. Virat Kohli's side will be hungry to do well in England. There are many records which might get broken in this series. Let's have a look.
Vijay and Pujara eye individual feats
Murali Vijay needs 241 runs to complete 1,000 runs against England in Tests. The senior player has scored 759 runs, against England, at an average of 42.16 in 10 Test matches. In the last series, in England, in 2014, Vijay had mustered 402 runs in five Tests. Cheteshwar Pujara, meanwhile, needs to score 469 runs in order to go past 5,000 Test runs.
Kohli too can break some records
Under Virat Kohli's captaincy, India won four Tests against England in 2016. He needs two wins to become the most successful captain in head-to-head encounters. Alastair Cook (5) currently holds the record. Further, Kohli needs one win to become India's second most successful captain. As of now, both Kohli and Ganguly have 21 wins. MS Dhoni has the most number of wins (27).
England set to play their 1,000th Test
England are set to play their 1,000th Test match. They will become the first nation to achieve this feat. They have played 999 Tests and the tally reads: wins 357, losses 297 and draws 345.
English records in fray
England senior bowler Stuart Broad needs just 24 runs to surpass 3,000-run figure in Tests. He has 2,976 runs in 118 Tests. All-rounder Ben Stokes has 98 scalps under his belt and two more will see him get to three figure-mark. James Anderson needs 10 more wickets to become the highest wicket-taker in Tests between India and England. He has 86 currently.
