England suffer a big blow as ODI series begin
England will be without the services of in-form batsman Alex Hales, who has been ruled out with a side injury. The right-handed opener suffered the injury while batting in the nets. He is set to be monitored on a match-by-match basis. England management will be eager to see if he recovers ahead of the second ODI on Saturday.
Hales replaced by Malan as option
Middlesex batsman Dawid Malan has been called in to replace Hales. In first ODI, Ben Stokes is playing in place of Hales after he missed out the ODIs against Aussies. Hales had scored a ton, the last time he played at Trent Bridge, against Australia as England scored a record total of 481. All eyes will be on Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy now.
Hales has been in excellent form
England will hope Hales is ready before the second ODI as he has been in a tremendous form. He showed his class in the 2nd T20I, when he won the match for England against India. Hales averaged 48 in the T20I series and also chipped in well against Australia. Alongside Roy and Bairstow, he has been lethal this year.
England vs India ODI schedule
The first ODI is being played at Trent Bridge today and the second game will be taking place at Lord's on Saturday. The third and final match is in Headingley, Leeds on July 17.
