Prithvi Shaw scores a quick-fire 66 against Cricket Australia XI
When Prithvi Shaw made his debut for India in the Test series against West Indies, earlier this year, the youngster's approach attracted the attention of pundits. The teenager was likened to Virender Sehwag in terms of his aggression and ability to produce a wide range of shots. The in-form Shaw has started his tour of Australia on a strong note. Here's more about Shaw.
Shaw hits 11 fours against a good pace attack
Shaw struck the right cords in the tour match against Cricket Australia XI. The youngster smashed a 69-ball 66 on day two of the warm-up match between the visitors and Cricket Australia XI. His brisk knock was laced with 11 fours. The dashing youngster came into the match after smashing two fifties against New Zealand A, recently, away from home.
VIDEO: Highlights of Shaw's knock
Several Indian batsmen hit fifties
Several Indian batsmen got to spend some quality time on the pitch and they even produced impressive knocks. Besides Shaw, skipper Virat Kohli hit 64 runs. The likes of Test regulars, Cheteshwar Pujara (54) and Ajinkya Rahane (56) were among the runs, as well. Vihari also scored a good looking knock of 53. The only failure was KL Rahul, whose poor form continued.
Shaw has built a reputation in a short period
Shaw has already built a reputation in a short span. The teenager hit a century on debut and went on to smash 70 and 33* in the second Test versus WI. The Adelaide Test, starting from December 6, will be Shaw's third international match. Shaw has the potential to become a regular opener. He is touted to be the next big thing for India.
Shaw will be tested by dream Aussie attack
Shaw will be expected to hand India positive starts in the Test series. It will be a challenge for the youngster to deliver goods against the best pace line-up. The likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood will test Shaw on bouncy and fast pitches. We hope Shaw continues to play his natural aggressive game.
Prithvi sorted, but his opening partner is struggling
It remains to be seen if India hand KL Rahul the opportunity to open against Australia. He has been in dismal form in Tests. Even in ODIs, he has failed to deliver. India would have wanted Rahul to produce a quality knock before the Test, but he got dismissed for three runs. Will Kohli prefer Rohit Sharma over Rahul? Let's wait and watch.
