Records Virat Kohli could script during the tour of Australia
Virat Kohli is enjoying a fantastic year in terms of runs scored across formats. The 30-year-old Indian cricket team skipper is the highest run-scorer this year in both Tests and ODIs. The skipper has also notched 10 tons across both formats. With India playing against Australia in the ongoing tour Down Under, the star player could script some new records. Here's all about it.
Kohli has been India's best player this year
Kohli has been India's best batsman this year. He was the highest run-getter in away series against South Africa and England. The skipper was also superb at home against West Indies and smashed several records. Now against Australia, he will be eyeing some more.
Virat could be fastest to 19,000 international runs
Against West Indies last month, Kohli became the fastest batsman to 10,000 ODI runs after surpassing Sachin Tendulkar. The senior batsman will now be eyeing to get past another record held by Sachin. Kohli could become the fastest to 19,000 international runs. He needs 335 runs to set the record. Kohli could be only the third Indian to achieve the 19,000-run milestone.
International runs: Kohli the fastest to many milestones
Kohli already holds the record of being the fastest batsman to 15,000, 16,000, 17,000 and 18,000 international runs. Now he could join the 19,000 club. One would expect him to achieve the same within the first two Tests against Australia next month or before that.
Kohli could be the first to achieve this against Australia
Kohli was by far the most productive player in the last T20I series when India toured Down Under in 2015-16. He had amassed three straight fifties as India won the series 3-0. Kohli loves playing against Australia and he has 423 runs against them in T20Is. He needs 77 runs to reach the 500-run mark and become the first batsman to do so.
