The right-arm spinner has quickly established himself as one of the rising spinners in modern day cricket.

Interesting fact: Chahal started his sporting career with chess
Chahal is the only Indian sportsperson to have represented the nation in both chess and cricket.
Prior to becoming a cricketer, he was a chess player and represented India at various age group levels.
Notably, he was crowned as the Under-12 champion in the 2002 national children's chess championship.
He also represented India in the Asian Youth Championship (U-12 category).

A look at Chahal's rise
Not being able to find a sponsor in chess, a young Chahal took refuge in cricket.
He was first noticed in 2009 after claiming 34 wickets in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy.
In the same year, the promising spinner made his first-class debut for Haryana.
In 2011, he was picked by Mumbai Indians in the IPL for a price of Rs. 10 lakh.

Chahal was a star for MI in the final of the Champions League T20 in 2011.
The right-arm spinner grabbed two scalps in the finale.
He was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014.

He has picked up 100 wickets for them across six seasons.
He stood out in 2015 (23 wickets).

Chahal made it count post his Team India debut
The 29-year-old made his ODI and T20I debut for India against Zimbabwe in 2016.
Since then he has become a prominent figure in the playing XI.
In 49 ODIs, Chahal has taken 84 scalps with a best of 6/42.
He has also appeared in 31 T20Is.
The spin ace has accounted for 46 scalps with a best of 6/25.
2019 World Cup
Chahal was recently seen in the 2019 World Cup
Chahal was recently seen in the ICC World Cup 2019.
He took a total of 12 wickets in eight matches and looked solid. India bowed out of the World Cup after losing in the semis.
Chahal will next be seen in the ODIs against West Indies next month.
