Women's T20 World Cup: India beat Sri Lanka- Records broken
India beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to register their fourth consecutive victory in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020. Having already booked the semis spot, India remained unbeaten in their group stage campaign. India are the only unbeaten team in the tournament alongside South Africa. They finished the league stage leading Group A with eight points. Here's the match report.
How did the match pan out?
Batting first, the Sri Lankan women could pile up 113/9 at the end of the designated 20 overs. Skipper Chamari Athapaththu scored 33 off 24 balls. Radha Yadav and Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped four and two wickets respectively to torment the batting line up. For India, Shafali Verma was yet again the architect of India's batting. India won the match with 32 balls to spare.
Shafali is proving her mettle in the tournament
The Indian teen prodigy Shafali Verma has justified her selection in the tournament so far. Her scores in the World Cup read as - 47 (34), 46 (34), 39 (17), 29 (15). With 161 runs in 4 innings, Shafali is the second highest run-scorer after Heather Knight. She has also smashed the highest number of sixes (9) and her strike rate is 161.00.
The Indian bowlers have halted the flow of runs
The Indian women's team has managed to restrict the opposition to 130 or below in all four matches thus far. While defending 133 in the first game, India bundled out Australia for 115 in to emerge victorious by 17 runs. They then restricted Bangladesh and New Zealand to 124 and 130 respectively in the next two games and today choked Sri Lanka.
The Indian wicket-keeper is making a mark in World Cup
Taniya Bhatia now has the third most number of catches as a wicket-keeper in Women's T20 World Cup. She is at par with Trisha Chetty and England's Sarah Taylor. The tally is led by Rachel Priest who has 14 catches. She is followed by Alyssa Healy. Taniya has also affected 12 stumpings in 9 innings and she is only behind Pakistan's Batool Fatima.
