Lakmal falls ill due to Delhi smog

    What's the story

Pollution is taking center stage yet again in the 3rd Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Feroz Shah Kotla after Sri Lankan speedster Suranga Lakmal vomited on the ground.

Lakmal looked sick and pale and was forced to return to the dressing room after bowling just three overs.

Sri Lankan players continued to protest over the quality of bad air.

    Risky affair

    Notorious smog strikes yet again

Sri Lankan players were forced to take field with facial masks after the air quality index in the national capital was at 398, 18 times over the WHO's safe limit.

Sri Lankan coach Nic Pothas has been complaining about pollution and said that his players also vomited in the dressing room on Sunday.

Playing under such conditions puts these athletes under severe risk.

    BCCI doesn't care

BCCI accuses Lankan players of making excuses

Despite the Sri Lankan players vomiting and wheezing, the BCCI is refusing to call off the fixture, mainly due to its commercial commitments.

Instead of accepting the situation, BCCI has pointed out the performance of Virat Kohli in its defence, accusing the visitors of making a fuss. BCCI asked the Lankan players if Kohli can why can't you.

    Toxic air

Equal to smoking 30 cigarettes a day

While the crowd was not bothered by the pollution, it was just the Sri Lankan players on the field who seemed to have problems. Lankan bowlers got impacted the most by the situation.

This is because a person resting takes about 15 breaths of air per minute while someone who exercises breathes about 40 times a minute.

Team India, however, decided against wearing masks.
