India vs England, 2nd Test: Visitors lose four wickets
England are in a spot of bother against Team India in the first session of the second Test on Day 2. After claiming the last four Indian wickets earlier on the day for 29 runs, England saw four quick wickets fall down (39/4). Notably, the in-form Joe Root has been dismissed for six. Here is the first session report.
Four English batsmen depart quickly
Rory Burns (0) was the first batsman to depart after being trapped lbw by Ishant Sharma in the third ball of the first over. Dominic Sibley hit a couple of boundaries before attempting a sweep. The ball bounced too much and Virat Kohli took a catch at leg slip. Root was then sent back by Axar Patel. The former got a leading top edge.
India folded for 329 as England start well
India resumed the day on 300/6 and managed just 29 runs, losing four wickets within eight overs at the start of the day. Moeen Ali claimed two wickets, with both of them coming in an over. He dismissed the likes of Axar Patel (5) and Ishant Sharma (0). Meanwhile, pacer Olly Stone claimed the other two scalps. Stone dismissed Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj.
Pant brings up his sixth Test fifty
Pant brought up his sixth career Test fifty. This was his fourth fifty in the last four Tests. The southpaw batted well in a 77-run knock. He slammed seven fours and three sixes. Pant needed company from the other end but help never arrived. He was the one that could have taken India forward. However, his individual brilliance is a positive for Team India.
England falter as Ashwin leads India's charge
England were reduced to 23/3 as Daniel Lawrence and Ben Stokes tried to apply some resistance. The two added 16 runs for the fourth wicket as Lawrence departed. Debutant Axar has bowled well so far as Ashwin has been the principle spinner. With two wickets, Ashwin is making things go India's way. Notably, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj haven't been introduced yet.
