India vs England, 4th T20I: Hosts set target of 186
Team India rode on Suryakumar Yadav's 57-run knock to post 185/8 in the fourth T20I against England on Thursday in Ahmedabad. After being put into bat, India lost their way in the middle to be 70/3, but the side showed resistance from there on to put up a challenging total. Jofra Archer and Mark Wood were terrific for England. Here's the mid-innings report.
India score 45 runs in the powerplay overs
India had a decent first six overs, scoring 45 runs for the loss of one wicket. Rohit Sharma (12) started well but depart in the fourth over. Post that, Suryakumar came in and looked comfortable, starting his innings with a six. Chris Jordan conceded 11 runs in the sixth over as India did reasonably well.
Rahul falters once again with the bat
The focus was on KL Rahul after scores of 0, 1, and 0 in the first three T20Is. The opening batsman looked hit two fours before getting caught of a full-and-slow ball from Ben Stokes at 111.9kph. He had decided to go over mid-off but offered a dolly to Jofra Archer instead. Rahul shook his head in disappointment after being out for 14.
Surya plays a solid innings for India
Playing his second T20I, this was the first occasion where Surya got a chance to bat and he grabbed the chance with both hands. He became the third cricketer to hit the first ball for a six in international career for a six (coming in T20Is; among full member teams). Surya went on to smash a gritty fifty, hitting six fours and three sixes.
England's Archer and Wood do well
Mark Wood was once again superb with the ball and didn't give anything away. He claimed one wicket and gave away just 25 runs from his four overs. Notably, his final over saw him concede just seven, besides taking the wicket of Hardik Pandya, who hardly offered anything. Jofra Archer claimed three wickets, including that of Iyer in the final over.
Iyer and Pant chip in with the runs
After Surya's dismissal, India needed players to stand up and got that from the likes of Rishabh Pant (30) and Shreyas Iyer. Pant hit four fours in a 23-ball knock. Iyer was superb as well, scoring at a brisk rate.
