Indian team for Davis Cup announced; Paes dropped
Doubles player Leander Paes has been dropped from India's Davis Cup team for the upcoming Uzbekistan tie. Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji have been selected for India's doubles, while Ramkumar Ramanathan and Prajnesh Gunneswaran will play the singles matches. It is the first time in 27 years that Paes has been dropped from India's Davis Cup team.
India to play Uzbekistan in Davis Cup
India will play Uzbekistan in the second round of the Asia/Oceania Group 1 tie of Davis Cup from 7-9 April. The tie will be hosted at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association in Bengaluru. India had defeated New Zealand in the first round. It will be the fifth time the two countries would face each other, with a 2-2 head-to-head record.
First tie for captain Bhupathi
The tie between India and Uzbekistan will be the first for India's newly appointed non-playing captain of Indian Davis Cup team Mahesh Bhupathi.
Squad for the Uzbekistan tie announced
The six-member team for India's Asia/Oceania second-round tie with Uzbekistan was announced by the selectors. Veteran Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna have been added to the team, apart from Ramkumar Ramanathan, Prajnesh Gunneswaran, Yuki Bhambri and N Sriram Balaji. India's non-playing captain Mahesh Bhupathi said that the final team will be announced before the tie in April.
The singles and double ties
In the singles rubber, Ramkumar Ramanathan will lock horns with Temur Ismailov, while Prajnesh Gunneswaran will face Sanjar Fayziev. In reverse singles, Ramanathan will play Fayziev and Pranjesh will play Temur. In the doubles, Bopanna and Balaji will play against Farrukh Dustov and Fayziev.
