U-19 Asia Cup: India defeat Sri Lanka in the finals
The Under-19 India team defeated U-19 Sri Lanka team by 34 runs to win the Asian Cricket Council Under-19 Asia Cup. Batting first, the Indian team scored 273 runs for the loss of eight wickets, with Himanshu Rana scoring 71 runs and Shubman Gill scoring 70. Abhishek Sharma was the 'Player of the Match' for picking up four wickets.
Rahul Dravid appointed coach of India's U-19 team
Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid was appointed as the coach of India A and U-19 cricket teams. Dravid was a mentor of Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals since 2014 and has always been promoting young talent. Rahul Dravid travels with India A team on the tours and helps shaping up the youngsters in both the teams.
India U-19 lost to West Indies in World Cup 2016
India Under-19 team lost to West Indies in the finals of ICC Under-19 World Cup, 2016 in Dhaka. The young team was unbeaten for seven matches in the game and only inconsistency was the form of the top-order.
India's young boys reach U-19 Asia Cup finals
Defending champions India reached the finals of the Under-19 Asia Cup after defeating Afghanistan U-19 team by 77 runs. Earlier in the tournament, the U-19 India team won their matches by huge margins, defeating U-19 Malaysia by 235 runs, U-19 Nepal and U-19 Sri Lanka by six wickets each. They would face the hosts, Sri Lanka, in the finals.
India's third consecutive Asia Cup win
With this win, the U-19 India team completed a hat-trick of Asia Cup titles , having earlier won in 2014 and 2012. Incidentally, the senior men's and women's team have also won the Asia Cup title this year.
