India retain same squad for 2nd Test against Bangladesh
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the Indian team will remain unchanged for the second Test match against Bangladesh. The decision was confirmed by BCCI honorary secretary, Jay Shah, in a recent press release. The second and final Test of the series is set to begin on Friday, in Kanpur. India won the series opener by 280 runs in Chennai.
India's squad for the upcoming Test
India's squad for the 2nd Test: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
How did the 1st Test pan out?
India scored 376 in their 1st innings, riding on a century from Ravichandran Ashwin and a score of 86 from Ravindra Jadeja. In response, Jasprit Bumrah's four-fer saw Bangladesh fold for 149. India declared their second innings at 287/4 thanks to centurions Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. Chasing a mammoth 515, Bangladesh fought well but were eventually folded for 234.
Ashwin's stellar performance in 1st Test
The first Test match was marked by Ravichandran Ashwin's exceptional bowling performance, where he took six wickets for 88 runs. He earlier scored a century in the game. This led India to a resounding victory over Bangladesh by 280 runs within just four days. Despite a spirited effort from Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored 82 runs, the team fell short of their ambitious target of 515 runs and were bowled out for 234.
Key contributions in India's victory
The first Test also saw significant contributions from other Indian players. Ashwin and Jadeja formed a crucial partnership of 199 runs for the seventh wicket, demonstrating India's strong batting lineup. Rishabh Pant made a remarkable comeback to Test cricket after his car accident in 2022, scoring his sixth ton in this format. Shubman Gill, who didn't score in the first innings, bounced back with a century in the second.
Bumrah retained despite injury risk concerns
Despite concerns about potential injury risks to key players like Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the Australian tour in December, he has been retained for the second Test. This decision excludes players such as Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer from the lineup despite their recent impressive performances in domestic cricket. India will enter the final clash with a 1-0 lead and aim for a clean sweep against Bangladesh.
