India thrash England, enter final of Women's U-19 T20 WC
What's the story
Team India has booked a berth in the ICC Women's U-19 T20 World Cup final after a commanding nine-wicket win over England.
The semi-final clash was held at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
India chased down a target of 114 runs in a mere 15 overs, with opener G. Kamalini spearheading the innings with an unbeaten 56 off 50 balls.
Opening partnership
Kamalini and Trisha's partnership sets stage for victory
Kamalini's innings was supported by a solid 60-run opening partnership with Gongadi Trisha (35).
This partnership set the tone for India's successful run-chase against England.
Although England got off to a good start with a 37-run opening stand between Davina Perrin and Jemima Spence, they lost two quick wickets which broke their momentum.
Spin attack
Indian spinners dismantle England's batting line-up
England's innings was revived by a 44-run partnership for the third wicket between Perrin (45) and captain Abi Norgrove (30).
However, India's spin trio of Aayushi Shukla (2/21), Parunika Sisodia (3/21), and Vaishnavi Sharma (3/23) turned the tables in the middle and end overs.
This devastating spell reduced England to 92/8 by the end of the 16th over. The Brits eventually finished at 113/8.
Upcoming final
India to face South Africa in final showdown
The final of the ICC Women's U-19 T20 World Cup will witness India facing South Africa.
The latter booked their final berth after beating Australia by five wickets earlier in the day.
It must be noted that India and England had met in the inaugural tournament's final in 2023, where India had won.
Hence, the Girls in Blue will head into the summit game as defending champions.
