India vs West Indies: Records that can be scripted tonight
India take on West Indies in match number 34 of the ICC World Cup 2019 on Thursday at Old Trafford in Manchester. Virat Kohli's men enter the tie as favorites over a hapless Windies outfit. Several records could be scripted tonight with plenty of performers out there in the middle. Here is more.
Rohit can eclipse legends Kapil and Dada's records
Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma will look to do well. The senior cricketer (650) needs 50 runs to get past 700 World Cup runs and become the eighth Indian player to do so. He also needs 20 runs to surpass legend Kapil Dev (669). If Rohit slams a century, then he will equal former skipper Sourav Ganguly in terms of World Cup tons (4).
Rohit could join elite company if he scores a ton
Rohit has amassed two tons already in the World Cup 2019. If he scores another century today, then he will be the second Indian after Ganguly to register three tons in a single edition of the World Cup. Dada achieved the same in 2003. Besides Ganguly, Australian heroes Mark Waugh (1996) and Matthew Hayden (2007) achieved the feat in their World Cup journey.
Rohit will have these feats in mind as well
Rohit needs another 124 runs to reach the 1,000-run mark in ODIs this year. Australia's Aaron Finch is the only one to do so (1,130). Rohit has three ODI tons in 2019 and another one will see him equal leader Finch (4). Rohit needs 80 more to notch 400-plus runs in CWC 19. He will become only the sixth batsman to do so.
Virat Kohli will be eyeing to notch these records
Kohli (831) needs 13 runs more to surpass Virender Sehwag and 30 in total to get past former Indian legend Rahul Dravid (860) in terms of career World Cup runs. Kohli has two World Cup hundreds and another one will see him get past these two former Indian stalwarts. Kohli could also score a fourth successive fifty-plus score in CWC 19.
Chris Gayle can smash these World Cup records
Chris Gayle needs 88 runs more to become West Indies' highest run-scorer in World Cup history. Gayle has 1,138 runs and is only behind legend Brian Lara (1,225). A century for Gayle will help him equal Viv Richards in terms of most World Cup tons by a West Indian batsman (3). A fifty for Gayle will see him equal Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (7).
