India and Pakistan are playing each other in the finals of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. It is the first time that both the teams are facing each other in the finals of the Champions Trophy since the first edition of the tournament in 1998. It is the first time that Pakistan have managed to reach the finals of the Champions Trophy. On the other hand, two time winners India will be playing their fourth finals of the tournament.
Yuvraj becomes first player to play in seven ICC finals
India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, today, became the first player to play in seven ICC tournament finals. Debuting in the 2000 Champions Trophy, he played the first ICC finals of his career in the same year. Since then he has played the finals of 2002 ICC Champions Trophy, ICC World Cup (2003, 2011) and ICC World T20 (2007, 2014).
Pakistan lead 3-2 over India
With this win, Pakistan have extended their win-loss record to 3-2 against India in the Champions Trophy since 1998. Pakistan had beaten India previously in 2004 and 2009 editions of the tournament.
Pakistan batsmen hit consecutive 100-plus partnerships
For the first time in 14 years, Pakistan batsmen shared a 100-plus run stand in two successive games. Azhar Ali and Fakhar Zaman both scored half centuries for Pakistan as they put on 128 runs together for the first wicket. The last time it happened was in 2003, when Pakistan played against New Zealand.
Pakistan bring out their best
Pakistan's score of 338/4 is their highest in a final of an ODI tournament. Their previous best was 315/3, which they won against India in the 2008 Kitply Cup. The highest score India had chased down was 326 against England in 2002. Today's score is Pakistan's second highest against arch rivals India after 334 scored in 2004.
Fastest fifty for Hardik Pandya
India's Hardik Pandya scored the fastest fifty in a final-match of an ICC ODI tournament. He hit his half century in 32 balls, going past Adam Gilchrist's record of 33 balls.
