England vs India 1st ODI: All you need to know
After beating England 2-1 in the recently concluded three-match T20I series, the Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli will face an uphill task in the ODIs. India play England in a three-match ODI series starting on Thursday at Trent Bridge. England are number one side in ODIs and they will look to give a solid account of themselves. Here's our pre-match report.
Both sides come into this series with big ODI victories
India overpowered South Africa, earlier this year, in the 6-match ODI series by a 5-1 margin. On the other hand, England went on to beat Australia in two consecutive ODI series, besides winning against New Zealand in their own backyard. The hosts know the conditions well and their front three have played some mesmerizing cricket. Having said that, India are in form, as well.
Batting looks solid for both teams
This ODI series will be decided by the batsmen of both the sides. England's Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy and Alex Hales can tear apart any opposition. The trio have scored runs aplenty this year. They also have a finisher in Jos Buttler. For India, all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Further, KL Rahul is expected to support these two stars.
Stat attack: England vs India 1st ODI
MS Dhoni needs 33 runs to complete the 10,000 mark in ODIs. He could become the 4th Indian and the 12th batsman to achieve this feat. Bairstow requires 144 runs to get past the 2,000-run mark in ODIs. Virat Kohli will become the 7th Indian cricketer to captain in 50 ODIs. India have a 52-39 ODI advantage in head-to-head meetings against England.
Timings, TV Listing and conditions
The match is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start IST and will be aired live on the Sony Ten Network. One can stream the match on the Sony Liv app as well. As per reports, there is no possibility of rain.
England recently got 481 runs here at Trent Bridge
England recently got 481 here at Trent Bridge against Australia and had also scored 444 versus Pakistan earlier. Expect the match to be a run-feast. The hosts have fared well at this venue and Indian bowlers need to be smart to prevent the Englishmen to march on and have a say with the bat. India will also be looking to score emphatically.
