Rohit Sharma could script history in T20Is: Details here
Indian cricket team opening batsman Rohit Sharma will be the cynosure of all eyes when he takes the field against Australia in the first T20I on Sunday. The 31-year-old enjoyed a mixed run of form in the white-ball format against New Zealand recently, although he did go on to become the highest run-scorer in T20Is. Here is how Rohit could script history in T20Is.
Rohit two maximums shy of breaking this record
The 31-year-old will have a chance to create history in T20I cricket. Rohit currently has 102 sixes to his name in T20Is. He is only two short of becoming the leading batsman to hit the most number of sixes. Rohit can surpass New Zealand's Martin Guptill and West Indian Chris Gayle (103 sixes). These three are the only ones to register 100-plus T20I sixes.
A look at Rohit's records in T20Is
Rohit has 2,326 runs in T20Is at an average of 32.76. He has the record for most hundreds (4). The right-handed batsman has also amassed 16 fifties and is second in all-time list behind Indian captain Virat Kohli (19).
Kohli could also script this record
30-year-old Kohli, who missed the T20I series against New Zealand, will be looking to score some runs. Kohli, who has 2,167 T20I runs, can get past Pakistan's Shoaib Malik (2,263) in this series. He can also surpass Martin Guptill (2,272 runs) and become the second highest run-scorer in T20Is. Kohli enjoys a stellar average of 49.25 in T20Is.
India aim to get off to a strong start
India drew the T20I series against Australia in November 2018 (1-1). Recently, the Men in Blue lost against New Zealand by a 2-1 margin. Therefore, India will be eyeing to get back to the groove. A win on Sunday for India will ensure that they will not lose the two-match series. Australia, on the other hand, will present a formidable challenge for Kohli's men.
