India vs England, 1st Test: Records that can be scripted
India and England are set to clash in the first Test of the four-match series, starting February 5 in Chennai. Both teams come into the series after having played well in their recent assignments. With plenty at stake in this crunch first Test at the Chepauk Stadium, there are several records that can be scripted. We highlight the same.
Broad and Ishant can register these milestones
If Stuart Broad gets the nod in the first Test, he will be in line to overcome former West Indies pacer Courtney Walsh in terms of wickets. Broad has 517 Test scalps at 27.56. He needs three more to surpass Walsh (519) and become the sixth-highest wicket-taker. Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma, who has 297 Test scalps, requires three more to register 300.
Root can register these records
England cricket team skipper Joe Root is set to play his 100th career Test match. He is set to become the 15th Englishman to achieve this milestone. Root, who has 19 tons under his belt, can equal the likes of former England stalwarts Graham Gooch and Ken Barrington (20 each). Meanwhile, he can also get past 1,500 Test runs against India (1,421).
Indian trio can achieve these feats in the first Test
Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has racked up 6,111 runs at 47.74. Pujara can get past Mohammad Azharuddin in terms of career runs (6,215). If Pujara achieves this feat, he will become the ninth-highest run-scorer for India. Senior opening batsman Rohit Sharma (2,270) can surpass Shikhar Dhawan's Test tally of 2,315 runs. Ajinkya Rahane (4,471) needs 29 more to register 4,500 Test runs.
Indian skipper Kohli can script these records
Indian captain Virat Kohli has 27 career Test tons. Notably, one more century can see him equal the likes of Michael Clarke and Hashim Amla (28 Test tons). Kohli (7,318) also needs 62 runs to overcome New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor in terms of runs (7,379). Notably, Kohli has amassed 843 runs in India against England. He needs 157 more to reach 1,000 runs.
