India claim seventh ICC title by winning 2025 Champions Trophy
What's the story
India won the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy after beating New Zealand in the final in Dubai.
The Men in Blue chased down 252 to claim their third Champions Trophy title. They had reached their third successive CT final.
This win marks India's seventh ICC title, just behind Australia, who have 10.
Besides winning the Champions Trophy thrice, India have also claimed two T20 World Cup and as many ODI World Cup titles.
Performances
Three Champions Trophy titles
India's previous ICC Champions Trophy wins were in 2002 and 2013. They shared the title with Sri Lanka in 2002.
India also lost the final to New Zealand (2000) and Pakistan (2017).
Australia are the only other side to win multiple Champions Trophy titles (2006 and 2009).
The 2025 edition of the tournament was held in Pakistan, with India playing their games in Dubai and being the only unbeaten team.
Path to victory
India's unbeaten run to the title
India's road to their 2025 ICC Champions Trophy honor was an unbeaten one, right from the group stage.
They won all their matches, against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand in their group. India then defeated Australia in the semi-finals before meeting New Zealand again in the finals.
Rohit Sharma was instrumental in the final, scoring 76 runs off 83 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Titles
Four ICC titles for Rohit, Kohli
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have now won four ICC titles each.
The latter was part of India's victorious squad from the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy, 2024 T20 World Cup, and 2025 Champions Trophy.
On the other hand, Kohli won the 2011 ODI World Cup with Team India. He was with Rohit in the other three ICC titles.

Rohit reigns supreme
As per Cricbuzz, Rohit earlier became the first-ever skipper to reach the final of all four Men's ICC tournaments - World Test Championship 2023, ODI World Cup 2023, T20 World Cup 2024, and Champions Trophy 2025.
He has now become only the second captain to win ICC titles in both ODI and T20I formats, joining the great MS Dhoni.
