All-round India thrashed West Indies to win the second Test and seal the series by a 2-0 margin. India won the match inside three days yet again. West Indies showed character in their first innings (311), and dismissed India for 367. India lost the last 6 wickets for just 53 runs. West Indies then batted poorly to surrender the Test. Umesh Yadav steals the show for India
Umesh Yadav (6/88) notched his best figures in Test cricket. He is only the third pacer to clinch a fifer in a Test innings by an Indian bowler at home in the last 5 years after Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Umesh also picked four wickets in the second innings and has 117 scalps currently. This was his first 10-wicket haul in a Test.
Indian spinners, Umesh top the show in Hyderabad
The trio of Indian spinners led by R Ashwin were superb in their approach. They gave a solid account of themselves and picked 10 wickets in the match. Umesh's 6/88 in the first innings was the first six-wicket haul by an Indian pacer at home since Javagal Srinath's 6/27 against New Zealand in 1999. He also picked three wickets in 4 balls.
Umesh joins an illustrious list
Umesh only became the third Indian pacer ever to get a 10-wicket haul in a Test match at home. He joined an illustrious list that includes Kapil Dev (twice) and Javagal Srinath.
India seal third Test win at home in 2018
This was India's third successive Test win at home this year. Prior to this Test series, they had won the one-off Test against Afghanistan in June. The big gains for India were the match-winning performances from youngsters Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant. Shaw hit a commanding 53-ball 70 and Pant scored another innings of 92. Both had hit milestones earlier in the first Test.
Holder gives a terrific account of himself
WI skipper Jason Holder picked up his fifth 5-wicket haul in Tests. He took 5/56 in the first innings. Holder also notched his 8th fifty in Test cricket. Holder is also the 5th highest wicket-taker (33) in 2018. 26-year-old Roston Chase (106) hit the only century of the match. This was his fourth career hundred in Tests.
