PV Sindhu storms into second round of French Open
Indian badminton player PV Sindhu advanced to the second round of the 2016 French Open. She defeated Hong Kong's Yip Pui Yin, 21-19, 29-27 in the first round and will now face He Bingjiao of China in the second round. Sindhu returned to badminton at the Denmark Open last week but had suffered a loss in the second round.
The French Open
The French Open is an annual badminton tournament held in Paris since 1986. It was promoted to the Badminton World Federation World Super Series in 2008 and became a part of one of the 12 major badminton tournaments of the world. The 2016 edition of the tournament would take place from 25-30 October 2016, with a total prize money of $300,000.
Kidambi withdraws from 2016 French Open
India's Srikanth Kidambi withdrew from the 2016 French Open owing to an injury. In the men's singles event, Ajay Jayaram, B Sai Praneeth and H. S. Prannoy will take charge. 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist PV Sindhu will be the only female shuttler from India who will compete in the tournament. She will participate in the women's singles event.
Jayaram, Praneeth out in the first round
2016 Dutch Open finalist Ajay Jayaram suffered loss in the first round at the hands of Anthony Ginting of Indonesia. Jayaram lost 22-20, 10-21, 18-21. BS Praneeth was also shown the door in the first round by South Korea's Lee Hyun-il.
H S Prannoy in second round
HS Prannoy reached the second round of the French Open after he defeated Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong 21-16, 21-18 in the first round. Prannoy will face Taiwan's Chou Tien-chen in the second round.
