IND vs SL: Rohit announced as captain of Test team
The BCCI on Saturday announced India's Test squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, starting March 4. Rohit Sharma has been announced as the captain of the Test team. Interestingly, Jasprit Bumrah has been named his deputy. Notably, India have dropped Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara from the Test squad. Both players have failed to impress in the last couple of years.
A look at India's Test squad
India's Test squad: Rohit Sharma (captain), Mayank Agarwal, Priyank Panchal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, R Pant, KS Bharat, R Ashwin (subject to fitness), Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah (vice-captain), Md. Shami, Md. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Saurabh Kumar.
Pujara and Rahane dropped
Senior cricketers Pujara and Rahane didn't find a place after the management and selectors decided to axe them after a string of low scores. Both players, who have been part of India's Test side for several years, haven't quite made the desired impact of late. Their poor form both at home and away saw India look elsewhere. This is a major move by selectors.
Rahul, Axar and Sundar miss out due to injury
KL Rahul, who missed the T20I series versus West Indies, misses the complete series against Sri Lanka. He is nursing an injury and this led to him getting left out of the T20I squad as well. India have recalled Kuldeep Yadav back to the side with Axar Patel missing out with an injury. Washington Sundar misses out as well because of an injury.
