India vs New Zealand, WTC Final: India announce 15-member squad
India have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand, starting June 18. India have included five pacers in the squad, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Md Shami, Md Siraj, and Umesh Yadav. Notably, Shardul Thakur didn't find a place. In a major boost for the Kiwis, Kane Williamson has recovered after missing the last Test against England.
India's batting almost settled
India will likely open with Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. Recently, Shubman got a fifty-plus score in the intra-squad simulation game. Rohit brings experience upfront and will help Shubman settle down. Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane are the main pillars in the line-up with the bat. Wicket-keeper batsman Rishbah Pant will add more character in the lower middle-order.
Will India opt for two spinners or prefer Hanuma Vihari?
One question that will hover around the management's mind is whether to go with two spinners in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin or go for another batsman in the form of Hanuma Vihari. Both Jadeja and Ashwin can offer substance with the bat and will add more depth in bowling. Whereas, Vihari will add a bit of cushion in batting.
What about India's pace attack?
India have five pacers in the squad but is likely to go with three. Jasprit Bumrah is assured of a place alongside senior specialist Ishant Sharma. However, the third spot in the side is up for grabs. Mohammed Siraj, who impressed in Australia could be the preferred choice above Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav.
