IND vs WI, 2nd ODI: Hosts set target of 238
West Indies gave a good account of themselves in the second ODI versus India at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday. India were 43/3 at one stage before KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav added 91 runs. However, WI hit back and didn't allow India to run away with the game (237/9). WI will look to chase India's target and level the series.
India lose their openers cheaply
Kemar Roach got Indian skipper Rohit Sharma early on to give WI the early breakthrough. It was short of a good length ball, angling away from outside off and Rohit derived an edge to be caught. Rishabh Pant, who opened the innings fell for 18. Pant was undone by Odean Smith's extra bounce. He had smashed three fours in his knock earlier.
Another failure for Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli's search of his 71st international century continued as he departed for 18 runs. He was out on a familiar occasion, trying to drive a ball that seemingly shaped away from the off stump. He managed an edge to the keeper. Kohli hit three fours in a 30-ball effort. He was out for eight in the previous ODI.
Rahul and Surya forge a valiant stand
India were 43/3 at one stage and things looked a bit difficult. However, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav steered India with a valiant partnership. They added 91 runs for the fourth wicket. Rahul was the aggressor, hitting a 48-ball 49 before being run out. He was cut a sorry figure for missing out on a deserved half-century. He smashed four fours and two sixes.
Surya shows his mettle once again
Surya was terrific for Team India and showed why he can be highly influential. The versatile Surya came in when India's score read 43/3 and batted sensibly. He played the second fiddle in the partnership alongside Rahul. Surya rotated the strike well and showed character. He was out for 64 (83 deliveries). Earlier in the first ODI, Surya managed an unbeaten 34.
Hooda impresses as WI bowlers pack a punch
Deepak Hooda was good once again for India. He showed his value coming on as a finisher. After scoring an unbeaten 26 in his debut ODI, Hooda managed 29 from 25 deliveries. Meanwhile, WI deserve credit for starting well and then coming back when Rahul and Surya were going strongly. Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith were sensational.
India's experimentation continues
India have continued to experiment in the batting department. Pant opened alongside Rohit. Washington Sundar came in at number six ahead of Deepak Hooda, who batted in the same position in the first ODI. We could see several changes going forward.
