West Indies posted a score of 157/7 in the first T20I versus India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Nicholas Pooran top-scored for WI with a 43-ball 61. Kyle Mayers hammered 31. WI have a decent show in PP overs
West Indies managed 44/1 in the powerplay overs. In the first over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Brandon King as WI were reduced to 4/1. Kyle Mayers hammered Deepak Chahar for two fours in the second over. Mayers batted positively and kept the scorecard ticking. He hammered 31 from 22 deliveries as Nicholas Pooran chipped in with eight. It was a good start for the visitors.
Bishnoi helps India offer a fight back
Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Mayers in the seventh over after having started with conceding a six of his first ball against Pooran. Pooran continued where Mayers had left off and hit some crucial boundaries. However, the 11th over saw debutant Ravi Bishnoi take two wickets in the form of Roston Chase and Rovman Powell. WI were reduced to 74/4 after 11 overs.
Pooran chips in with a crucial knock
Pooran chipped in with a crucial knock. He looked good and got some much-needed boundaries. The southpaw smashed his sixth T20I fifty and a maiden one versus India. He hit four fours and five sixes at 141.86. The knock will help Pooran gain a lot of confidence after he was purchased for Rs. 10.75 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Bishnoi impresses on debut for India
Bishnoi did a commendable job with the ball on debut. He finished with figures worth 2/17 from his four overs. He now has the third-best figures by an Indian spinner on debut in T20Is after Pragyan Ojha versus Bangladesh, Nottingham in 2009 (4/21), and Axar Patel versus Zimbabwe in Harare 2015 (3/17).
