Mohali Test, Day 1: Rohit, Mayank depart; India manage 109/2
India were off to a steady start on the opening day of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. Rohit Sharma elected to bat on what looks like a lively wicket. He shared a 52-run stand with Mayank Agarwal before getting dismissed. The latter too departed in the 19th over. Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli returned unbeaten for India.
India managed 53/1 in first 10 overs
Rohit and Mayank came out all guns blazing. They started attacking the Lankan bowlers from the first over itself. As a result, India reached the 50-run mark in the 10th over. However, Rohit departed in an attempt to play the pull shot, soon after. He fell to a bait by Lahiru Kumara. India managed 53/1 in the first 10 overs.
Captain Rohit achieves this feat
Rohit is playing his first Test as India's full-time captain. He has become the second-oldest Test captain (34 years 308 days) for India in the last 60 years after Anil Kumble (37 years 36 days).
Lasith Embuldeniya dismisses Mayank
Left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya gave Sri Lanka their second breakthrough in the form of Mayank Agarwal. He struck the Indian opener in front in the 19th over. Mayank finished on 33 off 49 balls with the help of five boundaries. India were reduced to 80/2 after Rohit and Mayank had put them in the driving seat.

Kohli, Vihari drive India forward
Mayank's dismissal brought former Indian captain Virat Kohli in the middle. The latter is playing his 100th Test match. He has become the 12th Indian to reach this landmark in the format. Kohli, along with top-order batter Hanuma Vihari negotiated the SL seamers in the rest of the session. The duo took India past 100 toward the end of session (109/2).
