Rain disrupts 2nd day of India-Bangladesh Test in Kanpur
The second day of the ongoing second Test match between India and Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, has been disrupted due to heavy rainfall. The inclement weather conditions have delayed the start of play on Saturday, September 28, 2024. This follows a rain-shortened first day where only 35 overs were bowled. At the close of play on Friday, Bangladesh had scored 107/3 in their first innings.
Akash Deep shines on Day 1
Bangladesh openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan duly negotiated the Indian seamers in the first hour under overcast conditions. However, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep also kept the run-rate down. Deep sent back Zakir (0) and Islam (24) in quick succession to put India in front. Notably, Zakir could not open his account in 24 balls.
Commentary panel leaves venue amid rain delay
Former Indian cricketers turned commentators, Sunil Gavaskar and Dinesh Karthik, were also spotted leaving the venue because of the rain delay. This isn't the first time weather has messed with this match. On Friday, the start of play was delayed by an hour due to the outfield being wet from overnight showers. It will be interesting to see if the ongoing match will have an outcome or not.
India lead 2-match series against Bangladesh
Despite the weather drama, Team India is still looking pretty strong in the two-match series. They're 1-0 up after a spectacular 280-run win in the first Test in Chennai. The team will be super keen to keep the momentum going when play starts again at Green Park Stadium. It also must be noted that India are leading the team standings in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.
