Rain, outfield issues abandon Day 2 of IND-BAN 2nd Test
Day two of the ongoing second Test between India and Bangladesh at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium has been washed out due to persistent rainfall. The entire day was a complete no-show with the action being called off without a single ball being bowled. As the rain showed no signs of stopping, players from both teams left the stadium for their respective hotels.
Teams return to hotels amid unplayable conditions
A video doing the rounds online shows the Indian team leaving the stadium in their team bus even before the day was officially called off. The decision was not only due to continuous rain but also an unfit outfield, which has been heavily affected by rain in recent days. Notably, the rain had stopped in the afternoon but the heavy damage to the outfield meant any play couldn't take place.
Rain impacts 1st day of the Test
The rain was a bit of a party pooper on the first day of the Test match as well, allowing just 35 overs to be bowled. After a delayed start because of the wet conditions, India's skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. It was a rare decision, making it the first time since 2015 that India opted to field first in a home Test.
Bangladesh's performance and series standing
In the wake of India's decision, Bangladesh faced an early setback, losing their openers Zakir Hasan (0) and Shadman Islam (24). Luckily, a 51-run partnership between Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied the ship. By the end of Day 1, Bangladesh found themselves at 107/3, with Mominul and Mushfiqur Rahim still at the crease. As it stands, Team India is leading the two-match Test series after a massive 280-run victory in the first Test in Chennai.
