Darren Lehmann and controversies go hand in hand
Australian coach Darren Lehmann will step down as the coach of the Baggy Greens after the fourth and final Test against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Despite being given a clean chit in the ball-tampering saga, Lehmann wants to part ways. This is, however, not the first controversy he has been embroiled in.
Lehmann was banned for 5 ODIs in 2003
Lehmann, who played 27 Tests and 117 ODIs for Australia, has had few problems in the past as well. In 2003, he was pulled up for a racist comment and was banned for 5 ODIs. He abused Sri Lankan players during the VB triangular Series in Adelaide. Lehmann later apologized to the Sri Lankans for the incident.
Lehman asked fans to ensure that Broad cries
Darren Lehmann took up the role of Australia's head coach in 2013 and was all fired up for the Ashes. The 48-year-old called out to fans to ensure that England pacer Stuart Broad was in tears after he 'blatantly cheated' in the first Test according to Lehmann. Broad was slammed by Lehmann for not walking off after edging the ball to the slips.
Lehmann wanted to win at any cost
"I just hope the Australian public give it to him right from the word go for the whole summer and I hope he cries and he goes home...way he's carried on and the way he's commented in public about it is ridiculous," Lehmann had said.
The ball tampering fiasco in South Africa
The lowest point of Darren Lehmann's career has to be the recent ball-tampering saga. He might have been cleared of no wrongdoing, but it was under him that Australian players were involved in premeditated cheating. One thing is for certain under Lehmann, Australia have played dirty and unsavoury antics have become common.
