Caribbean Premier League: Imran Tahir makes history with 100 wickets
Imran Tahir, the seasoned cricketer and current captain of Guyana Amazon Warriors, has made history in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). At 45, he is not only the oldest player in the league but also the first overseas bowler to claim 100 wickets. Tahir (2/40) achieved the milestone during a match against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons when Hassan Khan was caught out by Gudakesh Motie. Overall, he is the third bowler in CPL history with 100-plus scalps. Here's more.
Tahir's milestone wicket shifts game momentum
Tahir's 100th CPL wicket proved to be a pivotal moment in the match, significantly shifting the momentum in favor of his team. The dismissal of Khan, known for his proficiency against spin bowling, left Falcons struggling at 41/3 in the eighth over. Reflecting on this crucial event post-match, Tahir stated: "I was quite pleased because Hassan is very dangerous and can play spin really well."
Tahir's leadership secures playoff spot for Amazon Warriors
Despite initial skepticism when he was appointed as captain last season, Tahir has successfully led the Amazon Warriors to their first title and secured a playoff spot this season. His leadership skills were tested when he sustained an injury midway through the season but made a strong comeback. Expressing his gratitude post-match, Tahir said: "I just wanna be really grateful to Guyana for giving me the opportunity over the years to come and play here in this beautiful country."
Tahir credits Moeen Ali for team's strong performance
Tahir also acknowledged the significant contribution of Moeen Ali, whose calculated 42 runs off 33 balls helped lift the Amazon Warriors to a defendable total. Despite initial difficulties, Tahir praised his team's resilience and adaptability. He said: "I think we wanted to have a better powerplay, to be honest, but I still think we were okay because we didn't lose a lot of wickets."
